Body Back Week 3

“You have to start somewhere”.

That’s been my mantra for this past week and a VERY important thing to remind myself of after this past weekend.

Let me set the stage:

Hubs and I are STOKED to have Valentine’s Day reservations at Uncle Julio’s, our fave. Mind you, the reservations are the blue-hair special at 4 in the afternoon, but beggars can’t be choosers!

I’d thought about this all week: I was looking forward to a night out and an awesome meal. I got a workout in earlier in the day and had been mindful of food choices all week. I figured I’d go and enjoy, but not over-indulge as tends to be my norm with any sort of Mexican deliciousness. I remembered Kellie’s post in our accountability check-in, where she said she took out only the chips she planned to eat from the basket so she wouldn’t eat too many. Genius!

Well, that plan was all fine and good. Until 1 margarita turned into an entire bottle of Patron and I was practically swimming in a vat of queso dip. Willpower defeated! The next day I felt guilty. And hungover. But mostly guilty.

And then that phrase popped into my head, ‘you’ve gotta start somewhere’. I’m not in this for just 8 weeks, I’m in this to make a lifestyle change. A month ago, nights out like that were the norm. Eating way too much processed food with no nutritional content was a habit. Making excuses for not working out happened almost every night. Now a month in, I’m learning to make new healthy recipes and really enjoying them. I’ve worked out more in the past month than I have collectively in the past year. When I got ready for our date, I noticed my jeans I haven’t worn since pre-pregnancy not only zipped AND buttoned, but looked halfway decent too! I’m not where I want to be strength-wise or endurance-wise, but I’m a heck of a lot closer than before BodyBack.

I think that’s really important for all of us to remember. We are all at different points in life, motherhood and fitness. But each of us made a choice to start something and make a change. We’re all starting somewhere.

With the remaining weeks and the support of the group, I know we’ll each get closer to our goals and at the end, it’ll be so great to see where we started and how far we’ve come!
